These native ingredients, coupled with New Zealand’s commitment to sustainable and ethical practices, ensure that the skincare products derived from them are of the highest quality.

Unveil the beauty secrets of New Zealand’s native ingredients and unlock nature’s extraordinary powers in your skincare routine.

The Benefits of Using Native Ingredients in Skincare Products

When it comes to skincare, using natural ingredients is becoming increasingly popular and what better way to harness the power of nature than by incorporating native ingredients? New Zealand’s unique flora and fauna have evolved in isolation, resulting in plants that possess extraordinary properties. These native ingredients offer a multitude of benefits for the skin, making them a sought-after choice for natural skincare products.

Native ingredients are often rich in antioxidants, which help protect the skin from environmental damage and premature aging. They are also packed with vitamins and minerals that nourish and replenish the skin, leaving it looking healthy and radiant. Additionally, the natural compounds found in these ingredients can have soothing, anti-inflammatory, and antibacterial properties, making them suitable for a wide range of skin types and concerns.

Popular Native Ingredients Used in New Zealand Natural Skincare Products

Mānuka Leaf Extract (Leptospermum Scoparium)

manuka leaf

The powerhouse ingredient in natural skincare

Mānuka is one of New Zealand’s most prized native ingredients, known for its exceptional healing properties. The active constituents within Mānuka are high in volatile oils, tannins, flavonoids and triterpenes. This chemical makeup has been found to be antibacterial, anti fungal, anti microbial, anti inflammatory and also anxiolytic (anxiety reducing) making it an excellent ingredient for treating acne, soothing irritated skin, and promoting wound healing. Manuka leaf extract is deeply moisturizing, making it a valuable addition to hydrating skincare products.

Kiwifruit Seed Oil (Actinidia Deliciosa)

Kiwifruit Seed Oil

Vitamin C-rich – brightens and rejuvenates the skin

Kiwifruit, with its vibrant green flesh and tangy flavor, is not only a delicious fruit but also a potent skincare ingredient. Packed with vitamin C and E, kiwifruit seed oil helps brighten the skin and reduce the appearance of dark spots and pigmentation. It also contains natural enzymes that gently exfoliate the skin, promoting cell turnover and revealing a smoother, more youthful complexion. Additionally, the antioxidants in kiwifruit seed oil help protect the skin from free radicals, which can cause premature aging.

Harakeke Leaf Extract (Phormium tenax)

harakeke leaf extract

Nourishes, hydrates, and calms the skin

Harakeke, also known as New Zealand flax, has been used for centuries by the indigenous Maori people for its medicinal properties. The extract derived from the harakeke plant is rich in antioxidants and omegas and provides excellent nourishment and hydration to the skin. This remarkable ingredient contains high levels of linoleic acid, which helps to maintain the skin’s barrier function and prevent moisture loss. It helps calm inflammation, reduce redness, and restore the skin’s natural moisture barrier. Harakeke extract is especially beneficial for those with sensitive or dry skin, as it provides gentle nourishment and promotes a healthy, balanced complexion.

Kawakawa Leaf Extract (Macropiper excelsum)

kawakawa leaf extract

A natural anti-inflammatory ingredient for calming irritated skin

Kawakawa is a native New Zealand plant with vibrant green leaves found in damp bush in New Zealand’s coastal areas. It has long been revered for its medicinal properties. The extract derived from the leaves of the kawakawa plant is a natural anti-inflammatory ingredient that helps soothe and calm irritated skin. It is often used to alleviate conditions such as eczema, dermatitis, acne, rosacea, and sunburn. Kawakawa extract also possesses antioxidant properties, which help protect the skin from environmental stressors and promote a youthful appearance.

Pohutukawa Bark Extract (Metrosideros Excelsas)

Pohutukawa bark extract

Calms and soothes irritated or sensitive skin

Pohutukawa (Metrosideros excelsa) is a native tree in New Zealand, known for its summer display of vibrant ruby-red flowers, and also for its cultural significance.

Traditionally Pohutukawa bark was used topically in Maori herbal medicine or Rongoa for wound healing. The bark contains Ellagic Acid which has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.

Pohutukawa bark extract is a useful addition to natural skincare formulations helping to calm and soothe irritated or sensitive skin.

Do I Need An Eye Cream?

A question we are often asked is “Do I need an eye cream”. Our answer to that is “It depends on what your skin goals are”. Read below to learn how daily use of an eye cream may benefit your skin, as well as tips and techniques on how to apply your eye cream correctly.

The Benefits Of Using An Eye Cream

As we age, the skin around our eyes becomes more prone to fine lines, wrinkles, and sagging. This is because the production of collagen and elastin, the proteins responsible for maintaining skin elasticity, decreases over time. To help prevent premature aging and the formation of wrinkles, it’s crucial to provide the eye area with the necessary nutrients and support.

An eye cream can provide numerous advantages to your skincare routine. It can help diminish fine lines and wrinkles around your eyes, reducing the signs of aging and lending a more youthful appearance. Additionally, it can reduce puffiness and dark circles, giving you a refreshed and well-rested look. Moreover, eye creams can hydrate and nourish the skin, promoting elasticity and improving overall skin texture.

One of the key benefits of using an eye cream is its ability to hydrate the skin. As we age, our skin’s natural ability to retain moisture decreases, leading to dryness and the formation of wrinkles. Eye creams that contain ingredients like hyaluronic acid can help replenish moisture levels, keeping the skin around your eyes plump and supple. This not only reduces the appearance of fine lines but also helps prevent new ones from forming.

In addition to hydration, many eye creams contain powerful antioxidants that can help combat free radicals. Free radicals are unstable molecules that can damage the skin and accelerate the aging process. By neutralising these harmful molecules, antioxidants help maintain the skin’s youthful appearance and prevent the formation of wrinkles.

By incorporating an eye cream into your daily skincare routine, you can help to prevent premature aging and keep your eyes looking youthful and vibrant for years to come.

The Best Way to Apply Your Eye Cream For Maximal Results

Apply your eye cream sparingly to the orbital area of the eye using a gentle dabbing motion with your ring finger. Start from the inner corner and work your way outwards. Avoid applying the cream too close to your lash line to prevent any product from getting into your eyes.

Avoid rubbing or pulling on the delicate skin around your eye – it is fragile, and rough movements can cause irritation and damage. By using light pressure and tapping motions, you’ll ensure that the product is absorbed effectively without causing any harm.

For best results, apply your eye cream twice a day, once in the morning and once in the evening. Make it a part of your regular skincare routine, applying it after cleansing and toning but before moisturising. By consistently using your eye cream, you’ll allow the active ingredients to work their magic and provide long-term benefits.

Unlocking the Secrets of Natural Skincare

The Secrets of Natural Skincare

Why It’s Time to Ditch the Chemicals

Are you tired of chemical-laden skincare products that promise miracles but deliver disappointment? It’s time to unlock the secrets of natural skincare and embrace a healthier and more sustainable approach to beauty. Say goodbye to harsh ingredients and hello to the power of nature.

In today’s world, where we are more conscious about what we put into our bodies, it’s equally important to consider what we put onto our skin. Natural skincare, free from harmful chemicals and synthetic additives, offers a gentle yet effective solution for all skin types. It harnesses the power of plants, botanical extracts, and essential oils to nourish, hydrate, and rejuvenate our skin.

Not only are natural skincare products kinder to the environment, but they also deliver powerful results. From soothing sensitive skin to reducing signs of aging, these products are packed with antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals that promote healthy skin from within.

So, why wait? It’s time to ditch the chemicals and unlock the secrets of natural skincare. Discover the transformative benefits of going natural and embrace a skincare routine that is as good for your skin as it is for the planet.

The dangers of chemical skincare products

Chemical skincare products have become the norm in today’s beauty industry. However, what many people fail to realize is the potential harm these products can cause to our skin and overall health. The long list of ingredients, most of which are unpronounceable, can be overwhelming and confusing.

One of the biggest concerns with chemical skincare products is the use of synthetic additives and preservatives. These ingredients can strip the skin of its natural oils, leading to dryness, irritation, and even breakouts. Additionally, many chemicals commonly found in skincare products have been linked to hormone disruption and other serious health issues.

Common natural skincare ingredients and their benefits

Natural skincare, on the other hand, offers a safe and effective alternative to chemical-laden products. By harnessing the power of nature, these products provide a plethora of benefits for our skin and overall well-being.

One of the key benefits of natural skincare is its ability to nourish and hydrate the skin without causing any harm. Natural ingredients like aloe vera, shea butter, and jojoba oil are rich in vitamins and antioxidants that help to moisturize and protect the skin. These ingredients also have anti-inflammatory properties, making them ideal for sensitive skin.

Another advantage of natural skincare is its ability to address specific skin concerns. Whether you’re dealing with acne, fine lines, or hyperpigmentation, there’s a natural ingredient that can help. For example, tea tree oil is known for its antibacterial properties and can help treat acne-prone skin, while rosehip oil is packed with antioxidants that promote a youthful complexion.

How to transition to a natural skincare routine

When it comes to natural skincare, there is a wide range of ingredients to choose from. Each ingredient has its own unique set of benefits, making it important to understand what works best for your skin type and concerns.

  1. Aloe Vera: Known for its soothing and healing properties, aloe vera is a popular ingredient in natural skincare. It helps to calm inflammation, promote cell regeneration, and moisturize the skin.
  2. Coconut Oil: Coconut oil is a versatile ingredient that can be used for both skincare and haircare. It is deeply moisturizing and can help to improve the skin’s elasticity and suppleness.
  3. Hyaluronic Acid: This natural ingredient is a powerhouse when it comes to hydration. It is able to hold up to 1,000 times its weight in water, making it an excellent choice for dry and dehydrated skin.

Creating a natural skincare routine for different skin types

Transitioning to a natural skincare routine may seem overwhelming, especially if you’re used to using chemical products. However, with a few simple steps, you can make the switch and start reaping the benefits of natural skincare.

  1. Educate Yourself: Start by learning about the harmful ingredients commonly found in skincare products. This will help you make informed decisions when choosing natural alternatives.
  2. Read Labels: When shopping for skincare products, always read the labels carefully. Look for products that are free from sulfates, parabens, phthalates, and other harmful chemicals.
  3. Discover the best skincare routine for your skin type to ensure you select the most suitable skincare products for your skin.
  4. Start with the Basics: Begin your natural skincare journey by incorporating a gentle cleanser, toner, moisturiser, and sunscreen into your routine. These four products are the foundation of any skincare routine.

Conclusion: Embracing the power of natural skincare

Once you’ve established a natural skincare routine, it’s important to maintain it for optimal results. Here are a few tips to help you stay on track:

  1. Consistency is Key: Stick to your skincare routine and be patient. Natural products may take longer to show results, but they are worth the wait.
  2. Avoid Overloading: Don’t overdo it with too many products. Keep your routine simple and focus on the essentials.
  3. Protect Your Skin: Always wear sunscreen, even on cloudy days. This will protect your skin from harmful UV rays and prevent premature aging.

Healthy, glowing skin has a natural radiance and is a great indicator of overall health and well-being. When your skin is well-hydrated, free from blemishes, and has an even tone, it can reflect good physical health and a balanced lifestyle, and help you feel good about yourself.

However, achieving healthy, radiant, glowing skin can take time and commitment. This is even more apparent during a change of season. Have you noticed how your skin needs a lot more nourishment and moisture to combat the dry air from the cold weather in winter. In contrast, as the weather gets warmer and more humid in spring your skin’s natural oils come back into balance and your skin’s needs may shift.

A spring skincare makeover is a great way to refresh your skincare routine and adapt it to the changing season.

Here are our Ten Top Tips to update your skincare routine this spring, and get your fresh-faced, healthy glow back on track!

Ten Top Tips For Your Spring Skincare Makeover

1.Determine Your Skin Type

Did you know your skin type can change over time. Determining your skin type and any related skin concerns is important so that you can select the products most suited to your skin. The type of skin you have can change throughout your life due to factors such as climate, environment, diet, hormonal changes, and stress, to name a few.

There are six ‘types of skin’ that are commonly referred to and include: Normal/ Balanced, Dry, Oily, Combination, Sensitive, Acne-prone. Everyone’s skin is different, however, and it’s common to have a mixture of different skin types. To learn how to determine your skin type click the button below.

2. Choose a Gentle Daily Cleanser

Start your daily skincare routine with a gentle, hydrating cleanser to remove any impurities and create a clean canvas. Avoid harsh sulfates and chemicals that can irritate and dry out the skin, and choose instead a gentle natural cleanser that won’t strip your skin of its natural oils. Cleansing twice a day is important to remove dirt, oil, and impurities so your natural glow can shine through.

Scenturie’s Natural Creamy Cleanser is formulated with a selection of premium botanical oils and extracts renowned for their hydrating and moisturising qualities. 4. Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate!

Got the message? Your skin needs hydration all year round to keep your cells healthy and functioning optimally. Hydrated skin looks plump and radiant which are both needed for that coveted glow. 5. Antioxidants… Always

Antioxidants are essential for skincare because they play a crucial role in protecting your skin from damage caused by harmful molecules known as free radicals. Free radicals are highly reactive molecules or ions that can be generated by various external factors and processes, such as UV radiation, pollution, smoking, and even normal metabolic processes within the body. These free radicals can damage skin cells, collagen, and DNA, leading to premature aging and various skin problems.

Incorporating products rich in antioxidants into your skincare routine and maintaining a diet with antioxidant-rich foods can help protect your skin from damage, promote a healthy complexion, and reduce the signs of aging over time.

Common antioxidants to look for in skincare products include:

  • Vitamin C (ascorbic acid): Known for its brightening and collagen-boosting properties.
  • Vitamin E (tocopherol): A potent antioxidant that hydrates and helps repair damaged skin.
  • Green Tea Extract: Rich in polyphenols, it has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.
  • Bakuchiol (natural retinol alternative): Stimulates collagen production and cellular turnover.
  • Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10): Helps energise skin cells and protect against oxidative stress.

Described as ‘Liquid Gold’, Scenturie’s Super Boost Bakuchiol Serum is a daily skincare staple that you should not be without. It features a nutrient-rich, collagen-boosting blend of pure plant oils, bakuchiol, and coenzyme Q10 to help restore optimal skin health, resilience, and a youthful radiant glow. Just 2-3 drops under your day and night cream, or used on its own, this outstanding natural formulation will deliver everything your skin needs and more.

6. Choose Lighter Products For The Warmer Months

Swap out heavy creams for lighter formulations that are easily absorbed through the warmer months. These can help your skin breathe with less chance of breakouts.

Scenturie’s multi-award-winning Nourishing Natural Day Cream is a super-gentle, lightweight moisturiser that hydrates, strengthens, and nourishes the skin all day long. It can also be used as a night cream for oily, acne-prone, and combination skin types, or if a fragrance-free moisturiser is required.

Remember to use a proven broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher daily, even on cloudy days. UV protection is crucial for preventing premature aging and maintaining your skin’s youthful appearance.

7. Use A Natural Eye Cream

The skin around the eye area is thinner and more prone to premature ageing, leading to fine lines and wrinkles. Consistent use of an eye cream year-round can help prevent long-term skin issues and maintain the health and appearance of the delicate eye area. Eye creams with hydrating ingredients like hyaluronic acid can help maintain moisture levels around the eyes and prevent dryness. Opt for a clean natural product that is suitable for your skin type and sensitive enough for the delicate skin around the eyes.

Scenturie’s Regenerate Natural Eye Cream is a unique, restorative eye cream that helps to visibly improve the health and appearance of the skin around the delicate eye area as it begins to lose firmness and density with ageing. Rich in antioxidants extracted from NZ Harakeke leaf, ginseng root, and green tea leaf extract, this lightweight eye cream delivers long-lasting hydration to smooth the appearance of fine lines and reduce puffiness. It is suitable for all skin types, including sensitive skin.

8. Regular Facial Massage

Facial massage is a wonderful addition to your skincare routine. Just a couple of minutes of face massage daily can instantly improve your skin’s appearance and is a proven long-term strategy for maintaining a youthful complexion.

Read our blog: Why Facial Massage is a Game Changer For Your Skin.

9. Spring Clean Your Skincare Shelf

Spring is the perfect time to have a spring clean of your skincare shelf. Check the expiration date of your current products – usually found at the bottom of your skincare packaging. If the product is past its best, or has changed colour, smell, or consistency, throw it away and replace it with a fresh new one.

As products age, active ingredients become less effective. If the product has expired it may not provide the best results for your skin. Expired products may also become a breeding ground for bacteria, mold, and yeast which are not good for your health or your skin. The same applies to your makeup and skincare tools so make sure you clean these on a regular basis.

10. Choose a Healthy Lifestyle

A healthy lifestyle is a holistic approach to well-being and goes hand-in-hand with healthy glowing skin. It not only improves your physical health but also enhances your mental and emotional health, leading to a happier and more fulfilling life. The four key aspects that form the foundation for a healthy lifestyle include:

1.Balanced Diet:

  • Eating a balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins, and healthy fats is essential for providing your body with the necessary nutrients.
  • Avoid excessive consumption of processed foods, sugary beverages, and foods high in saturated fats and added sugars.
  • Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water throughout the day.

2. Regular Physical Activity:

  • Engaging in regular exercise helps maintain a healthy weight, improves cardiovascular health, strengthens muscles and bones, and boosts mood.

3. Adequate Sleep:

  • Prioritise sleep to allow your body and mind to rest and recover. Aim for 7-9 hours of quality sleep per night.

4. Stress Management:

  • Practice stress management techniques such as mindfulness, meditation, deep breathing exercises, or yoga to reduce the negative impact of stress on your physical and mental health.

Remember, consistency is key with skincare. Give your skin time to adjust to new products and monitor its response. It may take a few weeks to see significant improvements but they will happen! You will be rewarded with healthy glowing skin you can be proud of.

Clean Green Beauty

Clean Green Beauty: What It Means, Why It Matters

As our environmental concerns grow, so do the concerns of countless consumers who look to reduce their footprint and protect our precious planet Earth. While this is a major eco-step in the right direction it can be confusing trying to make sense of all the claims and jargon. In the words of our favourite muppet, “It’s not easy being green!”.

We are here to help you make sense of it all. Read on to discover what defines clean, green beauty, and why it matters.

What Is Clean Green Beauty?

“Clean green beauty” is a term that combines two concepts in the cosmetics and skincare industry: “clean beauty” and “green beauty.”

Clean Beauty

Clean beauty refers to products that are formulated without certain potentially harmful ingredients. These ingredients can include parabens, sulfates, phthalates, synthetic fragrances, and more. Clean beauty products are often formulated with a focus on using natural and non-toxic ingredients that are considered safer for both the user and the environment. The aim is to create products that promote overall well-being while minimising the potential for adverse health effects.

Green Beauty

Green beauty is a broader concept that encompasses products and practices that are environmentally friendly and sustainable. Green beauty products often prioritise using organic and ethically sourced ingredients, reducing waste in packaging, and minimising the overall environmental impact of the production process. This can include factors such as using renewable energy, reducing carbon emissions and supporting fair trade practices.

When the terms “clean” and “green” are combined in “clean green beauty,” the term refers to beauty and skincare products that are not only free from potentially harmful ingredients but also have a focus on being environmentally conscious and sustainable. These products are designed to align with values of both personal health and the well-being of the planet.

How To Tell If A Company Is Clean And Green

Determining whether a company is truly clean and green, or environmentally conscious, involves evaluating various aspects of their practices, policies, and products. Here are some steps you can take to assess if a company is genuinely committed to being environmentally friendly:

1. Research and Transparency:

    • A clean green company should be transparent about its ingredient sourcing, manufacturing processes, and product formulation. Look for information about where the company sources its ingredients and how it ensures the safety of its products.
    • Check if they provide clear information about their supply chain, sourcing practices, and manufacturing processes.
    • Companies genuinely committed to clean beauty often provide educational resources about the importance of ingredient safety and how to make informed choices.

2. Certifications and Labels:

    • Look for recognised certifications and labels that indicate a commitment to sustainability, such as Ecocert, COSMOS (cosmetic organic and natural standard), Fair Trade, Certified B Corporation, Leaping Bunny (cruelty-free), and others.
    • Keep in mind that some certifications might be more relevant to certain industries or practices, so research what each certification entails.

3. Ingredients and Formulations:

  • Some companies may market their products as clean while still using potentially harmful ingredients. Research and stay informed about specific ingredients to watch out for.
  • Examine the ingredient lists of the company’s products. Look for recognisable, natural, and non-toxic ingredients.
  • Avoid products that contain potentially harmful ingredients such as parabens, phthalates, sulfates, synthetic fragrances, and formaldehyde-releasing preservatives.

4. Packaging Materials

5. Carbon Footprint and Energy Usage:

    • Research whether the company is committed to reducing its carbon footprint and energy consumption.
    • Check if they use renewable energy sources in their operations and facilities.

6. Waste Reduction and Recycling:

    • Look for evidence of waste reduction strategies and recycling initiatives within their business operations.
    • Consider if they have take-back programs for their products and packaging to ensure proper disposal and recycling.

7. Community and Social Responsibility:

    • Look to see whether the company is involved in community and social initiatives related to environmental conservation, education, or sustainability.

8. Customer Reviews and Reputation:

    • Read customer reviews and testimonials to gauge how customers perceive the company’s environmental efforts.
    • Look for any controversies or negative feedback related to their sustainability claims.

9. Support for Environmental Causes:

    • Look for information about the company’s sustainability initiatives on their website. Many companies that prioritise sustainability will have dedicated sections discussing their efforts and goals.
    • Research whether the company supports or partners with environmental organizations or initiatives through donations, fundraising, or advocacy.

Remember that “greenwashing,” which is when a company falsely portrays itself as environmentally friendly without actually taking significant steps to be sustainable, can be a concern. Therefore, it’s important to critically assess the information available and look for consistent actions that align with the company’s claims.

Here at Scenturie Natural Skincare we are committed to reducing our ecological footprint, as well as any negative impact we may have on our planet, while providing a clean, green natural skincare solution to support your skin and our planet, now and into the future.

Beauty and Personal Care: Why Plastic-Free Packaging Matters

Worldwide plastic pollution is creating an environmental crisis that is believed will be as serious as climate change. One of the biggest contributors to plastic waste is the beauty and personal care industry. With endless plastic bottles and containers dominating every retail space imaginable worldwide, more than 70% of this plastic will end up in landfill or our oceans.

However, WE are the ones who decide whether to buy these plastic packaged products or whether to choose non-plastic options. We are responsible for choosing the waste we purchase, it starts with us and it ends with us.

Read on to learn why plastic-free packaging in beauty and personal care products matters.

Plastic In The Beauty & Personal Care Industry

Life Before Plastic Packaging

In the not-so-distant past personal care items did not involve plastic packaging. Soaps came in bar form. Perfumes, a symbol of luxury, were packaged in elaborate glass containers. Hair-care products were powders or pomades packaged in tins or jars. The personal care industry was established during the 1920’s and exploded with the rise of Hollywood movies and the invention of American glamour and beauty standards. During the mid-20th century the plastic industry took off and the personal care industry jumped on board. Plastic was popular as it was cheap, light, flexible, easily moulded and easily transported.

Plastic Packaging Today

Today, plastic packaged beauty and personal care products fill entire aisles of supermarkets and beauty stores worldwide with more than 70% of that waste ending up in landfills or our oceans. According to a 2017 Science Advances paper 8.3 billion tonnes of virgin plastic has been produced worldwide to date and of this only 9% has been recycled, with 12% being incinerated, and 79% ending up in landfill or the natural environment. Plastic can often only be recycled once or twice into a new plastic product due to the break-down of its polymers during the recycling process, and many plastics are not recycled because the process is expensive, complicated and the resulting product is of lower quality than what you put in.

If current production and waste management trends continue, roughly 12 billion tonnes of plastic waste will be in landfills or in the natural environment by 2050.

Plastic is so firmly embedded in the modern supply chain that reducing or eliminating plastic packaging is a monumentous challenge that will take a concerted effort across companies of all sizes to make a change.

Key Reasons Why Plastic-Free Packaging  Matters:

1.Environmental Impact

plastic pollution

Plastic packaging is a major contributor to environmental pollution with more than 12.7 million tonnes of plastic entering our oceans every year. Plastics take hundreds of years to decompose, and when they do, they release harmful chemicals into the soil and water. Plastic waste also poses a significant threat to wildlife, as animals can mistake it for food or become entangled in it.

Plastic gradually breaks down into tiny particles that remain in the ocean as microscopic pollutants to be ingested by sea birds, fish, and other organisms. Experts warn that some of it is already finding its way into the human food chain and we have no idea of the scale of health implications this will cause.

By avoiding plastic packaging wherever possible and choosing instead to purchase products packaged in glass, aluminium, cardboard, or other environmentally friendly materials, you are doing your bit to help reduce the plastic pollution crisis.

2. Waste Reduction

plastic waste

Plastic packaging generates enormous amounts of waste. By opting for plastic-free alternatives, we can reduce the amount of waste ending up in landfills or incinerators. Plastic-free packaging options are often made from biodegradable or compostable materials, which can break down more easily and have a lower environmental impact.

3. Resource Conservation

petrochemical pollution

Producing plastic requires significant amounts of fossil fuels, contributing to greenhouse gas emissions and climate change. By choosing plastic-free packaging, we can reduce our reliance on fossil fuels and preserve natural resources.

4. Consumer Health and Safety

Some plastics contain harmful chemicals, such as phthalates and bisphenol A (BPA), which can leach into food or beverages stored in plastic packaging. These chemicals have been linked to various health issues, including hormonal disruptions and developmental problems. Plastic-free packaging eliminates these risks and ensures safer products for consumers.

5. Brand Reputation and Consumer Preference

As environmental awareness grows, many consumers are actively seeking out products with sustainable packaging. By adopting plastic-free packaging, businesses can enhance their brand reputation, attract eco-conscious customers, and differentiate themselves in the market.

6. Regulatory Compliance

Governments worldwide are implementing stricter regulations and policies to address plastic pollution. By embracing plastic-free packaging, companies can stay ahead of these regulations and avoid potential penalties or legal issues in the future.

What Can You Do To Help?

Many consumers today are becoming more conscious of the environmental and social impact of the products they use. Choosing beauty and personal care products with minimal or plastic-free packaging aligns with values of sustainability, conservation, and ethical consumption.

Amber glass choosing

Overall, plastic-free packaging is crucial for mitigating environmental damage, reducing waste, protecting human health, and aligning with sustainability goals. It promotes a more responsible and eco-friendly approach to packaging, benefiting both businesses and consumers in the long run.

Why Facial Massage is A Game Changer For Your Skin

The Remarkable Benefits of Face Massage

Could the fountain of youth be as simple as a daily face massage? Some experts say YES!

In recent years, facial massage has been taking off as a trend amongst beauty lovers as a way to instantly improve the skin’s appearance, but also as a long-term strategy for maintaining a youthful complexion.

In fact, a 2019 randomised controlled trial of women aged 40-50 years, showed significant results in reducing the signs of aging, such as fine lines and wrinkles, when facial massage was applied over a six-week period. Read more HERE.

If you have yet to experience the magic of massaging your face, here are a few convincing facts that will make you want to start ASAP. Read on to learn how facial massage can benefit your skin, as well as a few key tips to help you get started.

1. Facial massage supports skin health from the inside out

Facial massage stimulates blood circulation, resulting in increased delivery of oxygen and nutrients to the skin cells. When the skin is well-nourished it has an easier time carrying out important repair processes, including moisture retention, barrier repair, and recovery from breakouts.

2. Facial massage encourages healthy ageing

In the short-term, facial massage can help to revive the skin and encourage a healthy appearance. However, what’s more exciting is that over time, it can also produce cumulative benefits, keeping collagen synthesis and cellular regeneration on track. Collagen is the skin’s most important building block, responsible for keeping the skin healthy and supple. It is our best ally for helping to prevent the formation of premature lines and wrinkles.

3. Facial massage naturally sculpts, lifts, tones and tightens

Facial massage facilitates lymphatic drainage, which is the movement of fluid from body tissues into blood circulation. It is an amazing way to reduce puffiness and cosmetic concerns related to excess fluid in the face – including dark circles, double chins, and overall lack of definition. Think of it as the ultimate contour trick, no makeup needed!

4. Facial massage promotes a radiant, luminous glow

As a result of increased circulatory activity and lymphatic movement, what you’ll likely notice following facial massage is that your skin takes on a nice healthy colour. This can be especially beneficial if you struggle with dull skin, or discoloration and creates the effect of a more even and clear complexion.

5. Facial massage provides relaxation and serious stress relief

Last but not least, massaging the face can actually be an incredibly powerful way to reboot your stress levels and restore your nervous system to homeostasis. Just a few minutes can do a lot to melt muscle tension in the face and produce a calming effect for your whole body. Try it the next time you’re feeling anxious or just in need of a moment of zen!

Our Top Tips For Adding Facial Massage To Your Skincare Routine

To begin incorporating facial massage into your skincare rituals, getting started is easy. Here are a few best practices to ensure success:

1. Commit to consistency

Although some results from facial massage are instant, true transformation tends to occur when you make it a regular habit. Just a few minutes per day is plenty to start seeing positive changes, so if possible try adding it in each morning or evening – or both if you like! For more tips on achieving healthy glowing skin read our blog: Spring Skincare Makeover For Healthy Glowing Skin.

2. Go with the flow

For promoting lymphatic drainage, proper technique is critical. You’ll want to use only light pressure, avoiding stretching or tugging the skin, and always work in fluid strokes upwards along the neck and outwards towards the edges of the face.

3. Pair your massage with your favourite products

A perfect way to streamline your routine and get great results is to utilise a botanical facial oil as your massage medium. As you work, your massage will help infuse the product deeper in the skin, ensuring that active ingredients are well-absorbed and producing a beautiful, dewy finish. Our vitamin-packed, nutrient-rich Revitalising Face Oil is the perfect face oil for an indulgent, relaxing facial massage that will leave your skin glowing with good health.

4. Uplevel your treatment with a few massage tools

Once you’ve become comfortable with massaging your skin, you might enjoy building on it with a beauty tool or two. Jade rollers, gua sha stones, and other similar devices are designed to create the same benefits of hands-on massage, but can be easily added to any protocol for an enhanced experience.

5. Watch ‘How To’ videos

One last tip we have is to watch online tutorials. Social media sites such as TikTok and YouTube contain a wealth of videos, and step-by-step instructions, and are the perfect way to acquaint yourself with various techniques. For example, we love this seven-minute routine for targeted massage moves and manoeuvres. Click below to view.

Upcycled Ingredients For Sustainable Skincare

There is an innovative change in the beauty industry that is predicted to be the next major green wave. It is a new response to our climate crisis that has the potential to make a substantial positive environmental impact – the utilisation of UPCYCLED INGREDIENTS for sustainable skincare.

What is upcycling?

Upcycling is the process of transforming waste materials or by-products into new products or materials of higher value, quality, or functionality. Unlike recycling, which typically involves breaking down materials to create new ones, upcycling aims to repurpose and enhance the existing materials in creative ways.

What are upcycled ingredients in skincare?

Upcycled ingredients in skincare include plant by-products, waste materials, and discarded raw materials, mainly from food-production streams, that would otherwise be thrown away, but instead are crafted into new ingredients and used with great results in skincare formulations. Here are some examples:

  1. Coffee Grounds – a by-product of coffee brewing, they are often used as exfoliants in scrubs and soaps.

  2. Fruit Pulp: waste pulp from juicing or processing fruits can be upcycled into various products and used for their skin nourishing properties.

  3. Brewery By-products: spent grains and yeast can be upcycled as skincare ingredients for their rich nutrient content and exfoliating properties.

  4. Wine Grape Extract – a byproduct formed from the leftover grape skins, seeds, and stems during wine making, rich in antioxidants and polyphenols.

  5. Seaweed – a sustainable, hydrating, and mineral-rich marine ingredient that can be upcycled in skincare products.

Key ways in which upcycled ingredients can help support sustainability.

The use of upcycled ingredients plays a significant role in promoting sustainability and addressing the global challenges of waste management and resource depletion. Some key ways in which upcycled ingredients can help support sustainability include:

1. Reducing Waste: Upcycled ingredients help reduce waste by repurposing materials that would otherwise end up in landfills or incinerators. By transforming waste into valuable resources, upcycling reduces the environmental burden associated with waste disposal and contributes to a circular economy.

2. Conserving Natural Resources: Upcycling reduces the demand for virgin raw materials, which conserves natural resources such as water, energy, and land. By utilising existing materials and by-products, upcycled ingredients help alleviate the pressure on ecosystems and promote more sustainable resource management.

3. Reducing Environmental Impact: The production of new materials often involves resource-intensive processes that generate greenhouse gas emissions, pollution, and habitat destruction. Upcycling requires fewer resources and energy compared to traditional manufacturing methods, leading to lower carbon footprints and reduced environmental impact.

4. Providing Economic Opportunities: Upcycling can create new economic opportunities and contribute to local communities. By turning waste into valuable ingredients or products, upcycling supports job creation, entrepreneurship, and local manufacturing.

How are upcycled ingredients used in Scenturie Natural Skincare Products?

Here at Scenturie, upcycled Apple Seed Oil is a hero ingredient in our new Regenerate Natural Eye Cream. The oil is extracted from the waste pulp left over from apple juice manufacturing that would otherwise be discarded. It is rich in fatty acids including omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, which are important for maintaining the skin’s barrier function and keeping it nourished. It also contains high levels of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants, and of special note high amounts of sulphur, an essential nutrient for the health of the skin necessary for the formation of collagen which helps to support skin and keep it supple and smooth.

Also featured in our Regenerate Natural Eye Cream is Resveratrol extract, a potent antioxidant that helps protect the skin from premature aging. Resveratrol has been shown to stimulate collagen production which can reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and age spots, and promote a more youthful complexion.

Our Resveratrol extract is extracted from the Japanese knotweed plant which contains one of the highest concentrations of resveratrol available in the world. The Japanese Knotweed plant is considered a serious invasive pest plant in many parts of Europe, however by extracting resveratrol from the eradicated plant which would otherwise be destroyed, upcycling gives us an ingredient that is hugely beneficial to human health and skincare.

As a clean green beauty brand, we are keen to explore more ways of including upcycled ingredients in our natural skincare products in the future. Read more about clean beauty, what it means, and why it matters HERE.

Overall, by incorporating upcycling practices into skincare, beauty brands can contribute to a more sustainable and circular approach to the industry. It allows for the reduction of waste, promotes creative solutions, and aligns with the growing consumer demand for environmentally friendly skincare options.

Top Tips for Beautiful Skin This Autumn

As Autumn graces us with shorter days, cooler temperatures, reduced humidity, and falling leaves, you may have noticed a number of changes to your skin. Common skin changes that occur in response to the climatic shift in Autumn include:

1. Increased dryness: The cooler temperatures and lower humidity levels can cause the skin to become dry and dehydrated. This can lead to increased sensitivity, itching, flakiness, and a tight feeling.

2. Duller Appearance: Reduced sunlight and decreased humidity levels can lead to a dull and lackluster complexion.

3. Lines and wrinkles: The drop in humidity can also accentuate fine lines and wrinkles, making them more noticeable.

4. Redness and irritation: For some people, cooler temperatures and dry air can trigger skin irritation and inflammation, leading to redness, itching, and sensitivity. Those who suffer from eczema, psoriasis, and rosacea may also experience increased irritation to their skin.

5. Acne and breakouts: As the weather changes, the skin’s natural oil production may fluctuate, leading to clogged pores and breakouts.

Dermatologists agree that as the seasons change, so should your skincare routine. It’s important to take extra care of your skin to keep it healthy and hydrated and it is the minor tweaks that can make a major difference. Here are some tips to support your skin during this season:

Tips For Beautiful Skin This Autumn:

1.Use a Hydrating Cleanser

Because the skin produces less oil during autumn and winter it is best to use a cream cleanser to restore the skin’s natural oils and avoid unnecessary dryness. Scenturie’s Natural Creamy Cleanser is a highly effective, super-gentle, nourishing creamy cleanser that leaves skin feeling clean, refreshed, hydrated, and glowing with good health.

2. Add a Hydrating Serum or Face Oil

Using a moisturiser is one thing, but adding a serum or face oil adds an extra level of hydration and nourishment to your skincare routine. A good serum can boost the skin’s ability to produce collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid, which help improve the health and texture of the skin.

Scenturie’s award-winning Super Boost Bakuchiol Serum contains a nutrient-rich, collagen-boosting, blend of plant oils that help to restore optimal skin health, hydration, resilience, and a youthful radiant glow.

3. Use a Thicker, Richer Moisturiser

A good moisturiser is essential to restore the lipid barrier and hydrate skin to prevent dryness and flakiness. Look for a moisturiser that is rich in natural plant oils and humectants, such as shea butter, argan oil, hyaluronic acid, and glycerin. Another tip is to apply your moisturiser to damp skin before the water has a chance to escape.

Scenturie’s Ultra-Rich Natural Night Cream is a deeply nourishing and hydrating moisturiser perfect for an ultra-hydrating Autumn skincare routine. Antioxidant-rich Pomegranate Seed Extract, Green Tea Leaf Extract, and Hyaluronic Acid scientifically proven to greatly improve skin hydration, stimulate collagen synthesis, and regenerate skin cells, leading to the reduced appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

4. Exfoliate Skin Gently

Exfoliating your skin once or twice a week can help to remove dead skin cells and promote cellular turnover. Use a light circular action from the centre of your face outward – avoid hard pressure or scrubbing at your skin as this can cause damage.

Use Scenturie’s award-winning Espresso Facial Scrub to buff away dead skin cells and impurities to reveal clean, velvety smooth skin. Finely ground Fair Trade coffee beans are suspended in a rich, thickly textured blend of Argan, Chia, Grapeseed, Sweet Almond, and Coconut oils, and New Zealand Manuka leaf extract, to deliver optimal nourishment while deep cleansing your skin.

5. Protect Your Skin From The Sun

Always protect your skin from the sun with a good sunscreen of at least SPF 30 every day. Even if you’re not spending the day outdoors, sunscreen needs to be part of your daily routine. Sun damage can occur any day, any time, and anywhere. Even in overcast weather UV rays penetrate the skin increasing your risk of skin cancer and accelerating aging. Mineral sunscreens with zinc oxide and titanium dioxide are critical for blocking UVA and UVB rays.

6. Follow a Healthy Diet

Cooler weather often signals a change in our diets to eat more comfort foods. It can also mess with our skin, with fattier foods clogging our skin and causing breakouts. We’re also likely to drink less water which can affect the hydration levels in our skin. Avoid “carb-binging”, and continue to eat plenty of fruit and veggies. Stick to healthy fats and oils, and keep drinking plenty of water throughout autumn to maintain your hydration from the inside.

Healthy diet

Remember that skincare should be adapted to your specific skin type and needs. If you have specific skin concerns, consider consulting with a dermatologist or skincare professional for personalized recommendations. By following these autumn skincare tips, you can help your skin stay beautiful and healthy throughout the season.

Body positivity

Body Positivity: Why It Matters

What Is Body Positivity?

Body positivity is an important concept that emphasizes the acceptance and appreciation of one’s body, regardless of its shape, age, size, health status, or appearance. Body positivity takes the focus away from looks, and identifies people by their strengths and non-physical characteristics. This is crucial because we live in a society that often promotes unrealistic beauty standards and perpetuates harmful stereotypes about certain body types.

Why is Body Positivity Important?

1) Body positivity improves mental health. When people feel comfortable and confident in their bodies, it can have a positive impact on their mental health. Body positivity can help people reduce stress and anxiety, and promote self-esteem and self-love.

2) Body positivity fights discrimination. People who don’t fit traditional beauty standards often face discrimination and bias. Body positivity can help fight against this discrimination and promote inclusivity and diversity.

3) Body positivity encourages healthy habits. Body positivity emphasizes the importance of self-care and self-love, which can encourage people to adopt healthy habits that improve their physical and mental health.

4) Body positivity promotes social change. Body positivity movements can have a larger impact on society by promoting social change and challenging harmful beauty standards.

Overall, body positivity is an important concept that can have a significant impact on people’s physical and mental well-being, as well as promoting inclusivity and diversity in society.

Tips to help you become more body positive:

  1. Practice self-care. Taking care of your body can help you feel better about it. This can include getting enough sleep, eating a healthy diet, reducing stress levels, and engaging in regular physical activity.

  2. Focus on what your body can do, rather than what it looks like. Your body is capable of amazing things, such as carrying you through a marathon or creating a new life. Focus on these abilities, rather than any perceived flaws.

  3. Challenge negative self-talk. We all have negative thoughts about our bodies from time to time, but it’s important to challenge these thoughts and replace them with positive ones. For example, if you catch yourself thinking, “I hate my thighs,” try replacing that thought with, “My thighs are strong and help me walk, run, and dance.”

  4. Surround yourself with positive people. Spend time with people who make you feel good about yourself and value you as a person. Seek out social media accounts, blogs, and communities that promote body positivity and self-love.

  5. Remember that beauty comes in all shapes and sizes. There is no one “ideal” body type, and it’s important to remember that every body is unique and beautiful in its own way.

  6. Practice gratitude. Focus on what you are grateful for in your life, rather than what you wish you could change about your body. This can help shift your focus away from negative self-talk and toward positive self-love.

Remember, becoming body positive is a journey, and it may take time and effort to change the way you think about your body. But with practice and patience, you can learn to love and accept yourself just as you are.
